Pattern: BWOF 2/2009 #126
Description: Being comfortable and grabbing attention at the same time is no problem in this tunic – an absolute hippie classic. Plunging v-neckline, wide dolman sleeves and a waist drawstring.
Sizing: 36 to 44
Instructions: The are easy to follow and this is an easy tunic to construct.
Likes/Dislikes: I liked the tunic look and the drawstring added some fit to this style.
Changes: Most of the changes were for my sheer fabric.
*I used silk organza for the interfacing. I used this on the neck band and for the buttonholes on the waistband casing.
*I used French seams
Some garment construction changes:
*I basted the neckband facing to the neckband before topstitching
*I measured and marked the waistband casing from the hem.
*A tip from Mary Ray on small drawstrings or spaghetti type straps. Sew from the fold instead of the raw edges when making my drawstring. This is a much straighter edge to use and your finished drawstring looks great.
Fabric: A sheer silk fabric from Fashionista Fabrics.
Conclusion: I have a nice top for hot summer days, dressy and stylish while staying cool.
My tunic with a brown cami underneath
Gathered shoulder detail.
Very nice! This is a great review. I really like your fabric choice.
ReplyDeleteLori,
ReplyDeleteI think this is adorable. I love the fabric and style. I'm sure with your cute figure you'll look great in it.
Very pretty--feminine. It's difficult to find a pattern suitable to sheers. This was a good choice. Enjoy wearing it.
ReplyDeleteThe blouse is lovely, but the pattern calls for jersey, did you make fit changes to accommodate your woven fabric?
ReplyDeleteLovely top, Lori. I like your version better than the magazine's version.
ReplyDeleteLove that blouse - the fabric is really special!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty blouse...lovely fabric and super sewing!
ReplyDeleteI liked this one in the magazine; it's nice to see it made up. I really like the fabric you used.
ReplyDeleteCute tunic, Lori. How's the fit? Blousy or slim fit?
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, Lori! I have that fabric too, just waiting for the right pattern. This may be it!

Very pretty fabric and blouse. I have the same question as Nancy K. When I first saw this in the magazine, I thought of a cotton voile I have that would be perfect, but then I noticed that the instructions call for knit fabric. Does your regular Burda size work for you in a woven? It looks like it would because it's blousey.
ReplyDeletePretty top Lori!
ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty and the fabric is lovely!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, Lori. I like your fabric choice.
ReplyDeleteNice tunic. Love the fabric choice.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! It makes we want summer to be here!
ReplyDeleteI have a piece of that fabric sitting in my stash as well. isn't it gorgeous?!? Your tunic turned out so cute.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric and the style! I have this cut out of a light weight woven too--nice to see that it can be made of a non knit fabric!

That's a very stylish tunic! The fabric is gorgeous too!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking over old BWOF patterns and you made a wonderful tp from this one. I'm in Florida for the winter and spring and this would be perfect. Thanks for so many helpful details.
