Pattern Description: This is a pattern for a tunic, jacket and shorts. I made the shorts.
Sizing 32 to 44, I cut a 38 (12)
Instructions: They were good, Burda patterns are easier to follow than the magazine. I thought I would change up the steps for the waist facing but ended up having to unsew, the instructions were right (I should have listened!)
Likes/Dislikes: Ever since I saw Shannon's blogpost on these shorts, I knew I needed to make a pair.
I like how they turned out, very RTW, hubby couldn't believe I made them. The beltloops are fabulous and the cargo pockets.
Now to the dislikes - I made a size too big, I hade them belted to stay up. I will go down a size next time and take about 1" from the crotch depth, my pair are very highwaisted.
Fabric: Stretch cotton sateen from Joann's. It feels wonderful, is lightweight and cool, plus sews like a dream. I have some navy blue to make another pair of shorts.
Conclusion: If you are looking for a great looking short pattern, check out this Burda. Just double check the sizing and crotch depth.
I am hoping they shorts shrink quite a bit in the washer and dryer, fingers crossed.
These certainly are very nice shorts. (Love the pockets!)
ReplyDeleteNice shorts. So cold here now - I yearn for warm weather.
ReplyDeleteOh I love those shorts - the details are wonderful - they style is really nice. They look really great to wear - fashionable but comfortable, perfect for relaxed weekend wear.
ReplyDeleteLori, they are great! And they really do look RTW! I'm so not brave enough to try making pants of any kind!
ReplyDeleteCute shorts! Lots of lovely details and the khaki colour is always wearable with just about anything.
ReplyDeleteThese are so nice, a great summer staple to add to your wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteThe details really do make these look RTW.
ReplyDeleteYou said it these shorts look RTW. They are absolutely superb !!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations
Love your shorts. They look perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe shorts look great! I really like the fabric. They look very RTW!
ReplyDeleteGreat fabric choice and beautiful sewing on these. I love seeing the shorts with a cuff, since I never did add one to my version. (Thanks for the mention too.) I am anxious to make another pair. Keeping my fingers crossed your version shrinks up to a level you are comfortable with. Although, I think they look chic the way you have styled them.
ReplyDeleteAwesome shorts! Love the cargo pockets. Need me a pair!
ReplyDeleteThose look really cute on you Lori! By the way, I had no idea Joann's had stretch cotton sateen - I've been hunting online for some, guess I could just visit my local Joann's.
ReplyDeleteThose look great! Navy blue would be chic as well. The cargo pockets are nice and stylish. I have never sewn a BURDA pattern that wasn't from the magazine. Interesting about the instructions. I wonder if the downloadable ones on the BurdaStyle website have similarly better instructions.
ReplyDeleteThose shorts look good and comfy.
ReplyDeleteThose are cute shorts! I can tell they are a bit big on you, but they still look nice. I like the pocket details and how the waist comes together.
