Simplicity 2313 this time with a zipper

Okay, it is almost 100 degrees with the heat index today (at least that is what the weatherman said this morning) and I am finishing up my spring jacket.  Technically it is still spring, granted the last day and they are calling for 50 degrees during the night this week, so I might wear it.

I made view A for Erin back in March, here is the blog post and the review.  I wanted teh zipper view for me, that is view B.

I used a cotton twill from Joann's.

Changes: Added 2" to the sleeve length.  The pattern calls for 2" wide elastic but even after adding the length I was only able to use 3/4" elastic.  Also, the pattern calls for twill tape for the drawstring, I just cut a piece of fabric and made my drawstring.  I took a bit out of the sleeve cap, helped to ease the sleeve with no puckers.

Now to the zipper, the size the pattern envelope calls for is perfect, so if you are adding or subtracting length, adjust the zipper size.  When sewing in the zipper, I stitched it to the front first.  Then checked to make sure everything looked fine.  Then stitched the bottom of the front and the facing.  Checked to see if the zipper matched up and the hem matched up.  Finally, I stitched the front and the facing, checking again to see if the zipper was even on both sides.  That seemed to help and if something was a bit off, I had a lot less to rip out.!

Here are pictures and it was a bit windy, so the arms are flying around:

  6. I like this version too. I wish I'd made one of your two versions rather than the frilled version. Take my advice, it is a little weird!
