Butterick 5495 - dress

Updated - modeled picture

a little closer to get the details

I made this pattern as a top back in June, you can see full blog post here

From this pattern, I thought a LBD would be perfect and I do not own a LBD, I know behind the times/trend.

I purchased some ITY jersey from Needle Nook fabric and added 7" to the pattern (allowing a 1" hem).  My only other change was to make the band in the front 1" longer.  I felt like it was pulling the back of my dress a bit too tight.

Here is the dress with some different options:

Then I went to my closet and added some jackets/sweaters

I am quite pleased with my LBD, now I need to buy some spanx!

  2. I love it, Lori! I've always thought that top would make a good dress. All of your versions are perfect... It's going to look great on you...even without your Spanx...oh, please!

  5. Such a great idea to turn a successful top pattern into a dress. Your LBD is lovely - easy to wear but very chic. I love how you can style it so many different ways from casual to dressy.

  7. Beautiful LBD, Lori. It will go most anywhere. But, really, where do you need Spanx? You are so svelte they would probably fall off!

  14. Lori, this dress is just lovely.
I have some black cotton knit that I could use to make it, if I get over my fear of knit fabric.
I found your blog through Lynne B's blog. Very nice. I've enjoyed reading it.
