My Wardrobe Necessity

White t-shirts, boy, can I go through these things in the summer.  I wear and wear the ones I have and it never fails, I get something on them.
My biggest trouble with RTW is the thin fabric, I don’t want to wear a camisole with a white t-shirt when the temperatures are 90+.  I
I did find a great cotton knit from Fabric Mart Fabrics and used it to make a Briar t-shirt

I did take a bit of fullness out of the shirt from the waist down.  This is a fun top and the pocket just adds a pop to the shirt.

So one white shirt down with an unique look,   Thanks to Lauren at Lladybird I purchased some of the Organic cotton knit and it come while I was on vacation.  This fabric is nice and thick, no see-through puny little knit.  I decided to make my new favorite knit top, The Renfrew.

It is so nice to have two more white shirts for summer made from nice quality fabric.

  1. Can never have too many white T's or white shirts. Yours turned out nicely, and much better than RTW. Thank you for the info about beefy knits. I really don't like wimpy, thin knit. Nice sewing!

    1. You are right, Gwen. I am so hard on my summer wardrobe.

  2. These are great! I totally agree with you about white t's - they are a wardrobe essential but HARD to find in any good quality. I won't buy that pilling modal fabric so that severely limits finding any in stores. I suppose I should just make some so I can call off the search!

    1. Making them is so much easier than the search for a nice white shirt, it just took me several summers to realize that :). Thanks, Amanda.

  3. RTW good quality white tees have sleeves that are too short for me. So I used to buy long sleeved ones and cut them off! Now I use a Quik Sew pattern and of course they are much less expensive. Not a sewing topic but Saturday afternoon I got a stain on the front of a fresh tee within 5 minutes of putting it on, not once but twice!

    1. Annie, you sound like me, white shirt will stain! Good idea about cutting off the long sleeve.

Perfect! These both look great! I love the look of white tees, but I'm a bit too messy to wear them! But they're so fresh and classic, especially with your green capris!

  6. Beautiful wardrobe staples!
You know what is fully - I have FB and don't need to cut a scoop out of the bottom of shirts, they all ride up anyway. ;-)

  7. What great tops. Like you - I go through white tops like crazy and it's maddening when they are see-through-thin. Lovely white tops! g

    1. Thanks, gMarie, I think RTW wants us all to buy camis, too.

  8. You can never have enough white knit tops in the summer and yours look fantastic! I think I'm going to order the Renfrew top now that I've seen how beautifully yours turn out.

  9. I'm with you the RTW white Tshirts can be too sheer and it's to dang hot to wear a cami. Love how your shirt its just he right length too so it won't ride up when you sit down.

    1. Thanks, Joen, another feature I don't like about RTW, too short.

  10. Looks great. I agree with you about RTW. Everything is made with thinner and thinner fabric! It's like the garments could just float off our bodies! One more reason I'm so glad I sew! But I'm noticing that even fabric yardage is getting thinner at Joann's!

  11. Isn't that Organic knit fabric fabulous? I love that I can wear neon bras under my tshirts and you can't even tell, haha!

  12. Gah, those RTW tissue-thin white t-shirts are terrible. Definitely prefer the ones made out of substantial fabric. Yours are great staples - beautifully done!
