My biggest trouble with RTW is the thin fabric, I don’t want to wear a camisole with a white t-shirt when the temperatures are 90+. I
I did find a great cotton knit from Fabric Mart Fabrics and used it to make a Briar t-shirt
I did take a bit of fullness out of the shirt from the waist down. This is a fun top and the pocket just adds a pop to the shirt.

So one white shirt down with an unique look, Thanks to Lauren at Lladybird I purchased some of the Organic cotton knit and it come while I was on vacation. This fabric is nice and thick, no see-through puny little knit. I decided to make my new favorite knit top, The Renfrew.
It is so nice to have two more white shirts for summer made from nice quality fabric.
Can never have too many white T's or white shirts. Yours turned out nicely, and much better than RTW. Thank you for the info about beefy knits. I really don't like wimpy, thin knit. Nice sewing!

DeleteThese are great! I totally agree with you about white t's - they are a wardrobe essential but HARD to find in any good quality. I won't buy that pilling modal fabric so that severely limits finding any in stores. I suppose I should just make some so I can call off the search!

DeleteRTW good quality white tees have sleeves that are too short for me. So I used to buy long sleeved ones and cut them off! Now I use a Quik Sew pattern and of course they are much less expensive. Not a sewing topic but Saturday afternoon I got a stain on the front of a fresh tee within 5 minutes of putting it on, not once but twice!

DeleteI'm with you the RTW white Tshirts can be too sheer and it's to dang hot to wear a cami. Love how your shirt its just he right length too so it won't ride up when you sit down.

DeleteLooks great. I agree with you about RTW. Everything is made with thinner and thinner fabric! It's like the garments could just float off our bodies! One more reason I'm so glad I sew! But I'm noticing that even fabric yardage is getting thinner at Joann's!

ReplyDeleteGah, those RTW tissue-thin white t-shirts are terrible. Definitely prefer the ones made out of substantial fabric. Yours are great staples - beautifully done!
