This top from Net-a-Porter is something I want to re-create. I have some dark charcoal ponte in my stash and I purchased two trims at Joann's the other day. Help me pick the one you think is best.
The left one is leather and the one on the right has rhinestones on black decorative elastic. I intend on using the trim down the front, across the front like a yoke and then around the neckline.
One thing to note, this will not be made in the next couple of weeks. My serger went in for repairs again, yes, the same serger that was in for repairs the entire month of June. I am a bit disgusted with my Babylock dealer and their repair service. A new serger is not in the budget right now but I would love to also hear your serger suggestions.
I like the leather.
ReplyDeletethe PFAFF coverlock 4852 is the best serger I have ever used. Any time I bring it is to be serviced they offer to buy it from me for almost double what I paid for it 7 years ago. I take that as a good sign.
ReplyDeleteWhy not go for the studs, like in the top you want to recreate? I love how they blend in colorwise!
ReplyDeleteI love the rhinestones! I think it will be a great luxe sweatshirt top!
ReplyDeleteI have two Berninas. Why two I have no idea. The old one is just a keeper. If I were you look for an older model 004 Bernina Funlock they were made by Juki I think and they are workhorses.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the rhinestones.
ReplyDeleteI like the scale of the leather trim. And the original is great too! Good luck with your serger.
ReplyDeleteI like the first one!

I think the rhinestones. I have a Husqvarna Viking Huckylock 936. It was top of the line when I bought it 3 or 4 years ago. I love it. It makes the most beautiful stitches. I hate to admit this but I've never had it serviced. It has coverstitch but I bought a stand alone coverstitch because I don't like to change it over.
Ooh, I like both of these, but I think I like the rhinestones slightly more. Sorry to hear about your serger-- that sounds really annoying. :(
ReplyDeleteI like the one on the left!!
ReplyDeleteLeather, definitely. Edgier and more modern.
ReplyDeleteLove the leather trim - what a WOW factor. May have to hit Joann's this weekend. Will the rhinestone trim fit down the center of the leather trim? then you could use just the rhinestone trim around the neckline and intermix in the leather trim for the center and yoke? As for serger's - I borrowed my sister's who didn't have room for it so its happily stored in my sewing room on the desk! She bought it used it's a Simplicity that does the job I need it to - nothing fancy. I just use it to serge seams and it gets the job done.
ReplyDeleteI vote for number 1!
ReplyDeleteLeather trim. The one on the right does have more of the inspiration piece in mind, but the one on the left will make a stronger statement.
ReplyDeleteBoth are nice. I think the leather looks 'richer'.
ReplyDeleteLove the rhinestones!
ReplyDeleteLeather!
ReplyDeleteThe leather ! I think it will be more versatile and have more longevity in your wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for the leather. I like that edgier look and leather trim is definitely in! I just bought a used Babylock Imagine and LOVE IT! I also bought a new Babylock coverstitch stand alone machine and LOVE that too!! These are my first 2 Babylock sergers and I'll never go back to another maker. Nothing beats the jet-air type threading. I still own my Huskylock 905 (base model) but I think my Imagine is great.
