I purchased the Perfect Pattern Parcel #3
and the first garment I made was the
Jorna Dress/Tank
My fabric is Mood Fabrics' Red Jersey
I really wanted to make the dress but I was just about 1/2 yard short on yardage.
Hubby and I leave tomorrow for a conference and Friday night there is an outdoor bbq. This is my planned outfit, but now seeing the pictures, I am not sure.
What do you think? Should I make the hem more of a gentle curve? I don't know if I like that long middle part. Suggestions? Or should I just pack something else? Does this look good? Oh, the doubts are coming. Please help!
I will have to fix it quickly we leave at 2 on Thursday.
The pattern is fabulous to make, it has a nice facing. And speaking of the facing, I love the way the instructions have you sew the facing it is ingenious.
I do believe the armholes are a bit deep, I will shorten for the dress version. My fabric stretches very easily, so after I finished making this garment into the washer and dryer it went.

Let me know if I should change the hem?

There was a show we use to watch on television - and it went "How do I Look?"
Let me know if I should change the hem?
I think your instincts about the hem are right. It both seems to have an odd curve and strike you a bit low to be flattering. If it were me, I would make the hem smoother and shorten it a bit.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I wore it that way for the first time but will change the hem just a bit for future wear. I really appreciate your thoughts and comment.
DeleteI agree with Lynn. I think as a dress it could have cute potential but there is something odd about the length and curved hem. Maybe cut it to tank length?
ReplyDeleteYes, good suggestion and that is on the to-do list. I need to purchase some fabric to make the dress length.
DeleteEither way is fine - whatever you are comfortable in is the factor. I think you look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah, it is not what I usually wear but I love it.
DeleteI like it on you and you always look good in red. On me, i would shorten it a little and smooth out the curve.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sheila, I appreciate your thoughts and comments.
DeleteI love it, and you look banging in it.
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks so much, your comment is wonderful and just makes me feel so good!
DeleteGreat tank! You look fabulous. I would like to see it a little shorter on you with jeans. Or you could make it a little longer next time, and with a little belt, it would make a great dress!
ReplyDeleteA belt is a great idea. Thanks

ReplyDeleteOops fat fingers - I love the top just the way it is . It has a designer touch to it !
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary Ellen, for a simple and easy to construct tank, it has such a great shape and such pizzazz.
DeleteI love the top as is, but if you have any doubts, I would gentle the curve and see what you think. Your necklace and jeans look great with this top!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sue, it was fun to wear.
DeleteI go with the shorten and smooth out camp. When I saw the first photo, I thought it looked like it had stretched out in the front at first glance.
ReplyDeleteLOL, on the stretch outed. I did have to wash it after construction. I wore it long the first time, ran out of time to shorten but I am going to shorten and straighten.
DeleteI think the hem length is one of those things that, since you asked, I think should be shortened. But if I just saw you on the street I don't believe it would seem strange at all. Does that help at all?
ReplyDeleteIt does help, actually makes perfect sense.
DeleteI love it! Looks so airy and comfortable. I love the dramatic curved hem, but it would also look nice with a more gentle curve too :) Also, your garden looks gorgeous! What an amazing space you have.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lauren, I love my garden, just adds so much to the green lawn. We have had great rains every week, so it just keeps looking better and better.
DeleteYay, red! I love it on you! I like the curved hem, but I think I would shorten it a bit. It seems long to wear with jeans, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sonja, I tell you after all these red compliments, it might be the only color I ever wear.
DeleteYou look great! Love the lines of the shirt and that red looks lovely on you. I love that necklace with it, too. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much,Stacy.
DeleteIt is very cute but I would shorten it a bit !
ReplyDeleteThanks, I think shorten is winning.
DeleteI love it. Super cute and great for the bbq.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cennetta, it was the perfect top for the bbq
DeleteI like the top as it is but if you're having doubts then I'd shorten it because you won't be wearing it with confidence. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa, you are right it is all in the attitude
DeleteLove the pattern and the color is beautiful on you. Very fashionable. Make more it looks so comfortable.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janeen, it is super comfortable.
DeleteI love this on you! So different from what you 'usually' wear (blouses, etc.) and it looks fantastic! Do more!
ReplyDeleteIt is so different and I love it.
DeleteBeautiful top!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dorothy
DeleteI love it as is, and would like to see it with white shorts...=)
ReplyDeleteOh, white shorts would be good, thanks.
DeleteI think it is wonderful. It flatters your figure and the color is great. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bunny, you are good for the confidence.
DeleteI like it! the style is very flattering could be a bit shorter but not much it would look great with some white capri's too. Red certainly is your color
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joen, red and white is a great combination. Thanks for the suggestion.
DeleteMy feeling is if you are uncomfortable with the hem change it. Its different from what things you usually wear with the hemline. However you'll always be uncomfortable if its not your choice. Have a fun trip.
ReplyDeleteThanks Treva for you thoughts, I wore it longer but do think it could be a bit shorter. It is on my to-do list.

ReplyDeleteI think it looks fine…and interesting. But shorter would work too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vicki.
