My original plan was Colette Pattern's Myrtle dress but I had 2 yards of fabric and this pattern requires 3 yards. I took a look through my patterns and found a great pattern for this fabric, McCall's 6069. I really liked the front drape and the back drape, too.
I added 1 inch to the bodice and 2 inches to the skirt length. The bodice alteration is normal, I am long waisted and the skirt length was added due to the pattern envelope, the dress looked pretty short. The pattern envelope states this is a 1 hour dress, it is quick but wasn't quite that quick. The fabric is wonderful, easy to sew and so easy to match the side seams, it is one of the straightest jerseys I have worked with.
I noticed the front and back look so similar which made it a bit of challenge. I sewed a small piece of ribbon to the back drape, a perfect solution. I love my new dress and it is just right for the last few weeks of summer. I do think the dress would be cute with a belt, too. I don't own a navy belt, so will have to put that on my shopping list.
Good luck to everyone finishing up those last summer projects and have fun planning for the next season.
This post first appeared on the Mood Sewing Network and I used my allowance to purchase this fabric.
I will have to look at this pattern- it looks exactly what I am looking for. Love the fabric unfortunately I need something more sombre for this make
ReplyDeleteYou will love this pattern.
DeleteI love your dress and almost ordered this exact fabric for a dress, but wasn't sure how many panels to order. Are panels a standard length or am I missing something in the fabric description?
ReplyDeleteI was confused by this, too, Melanie. I just ordered 2 yards. Actually I wonder if it is a mistake and they meant yards.
DeleteIts lovely Lori, very pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
DeleteReally cute! Your one hour pattern reminds me of one of my first cookbooks: Meals in 30 Minutes or Less. I learned quickly to double or triple the time estimate;)
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny, Meals in 90 minutes probably wouldnt' sell many cookbooks.
DeleteWhen I say your dress I immediately knew the pattern. I've made it a couple of times and like you added the ribbon in the back for quick identification. Your fabric choice is absolutely spot-in and I'm sure it'll get lots of wear.
ReplyDeleteIt is a very recognizable dress, isn't it? Thank you so much.
DeleteYou look so great in this! It's so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
DeleteI recognized it! I've made that dress too! though I used the front of the square necked version for the back of my dress.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!
What a great idea to use the square front for the back, love it. Thanks so much.
DeleteLove it, love it, love it. Pretty print, great design and fit.
ReplyDeleteI love it, too, Faye. Thanks so much.
Deleteoh, lori, that back-- the tie makes it! you look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marci, sometimes it is just those little details that make a big difference.
ReplyDeleteHad to stop by and comment - that dress is so lovely and sophisticated - hard to find in rtw! Great choice of pattern for the fabric.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cherie, I just love the fabric.
DeleteAmazing dress, amazing fabric!
ReplyDeleteWe really need a Mood in the UK!
Oh, they should go international! Thanks.
