I jumped onto the Grainline Studio's Linden Sweatshirt bandwagon but why wouldn't I? After all, I love their Archer Shirt pattern, you can tell by all the Archers I have made
I love the raglan sleeves, the relaxed fit and the style but I do need to change a couple of things
First off, I am going down a size , it just seems way to big and oversized but part of me is a bit cautious on this adjustment. While I love this fabric, from Joann's, it has no recovery. So is the lack of recovery part of the oversized problem? I did wash the completed Linden in hot water and dried it in a very hot dryer to get it back into shape. That helped tremendously but still the fabric is lacking some recovery. Plus in all the photos, it is so big and floppy in the mid-section. Not two adjectives I want describing my mid-section!
What I love about this fabric is the polka dots on the right side and the wrong side makes this great stripe, which I used for the bindings. I did add 1" to the length and the sleeves, I really don't need that. I am going to take a look at the neckline next time too, might raise it up on the shoulders but a smaller size might help that also.
Here is a better photo of the binding, isn't it wonderful?
And here on the cuff, it is so fun.
All in all I like this pattern and you can find a good basic raglan style sweatshirts in many different pattern companies. I think you just need to go with the company you feel most comfortable with, I love the Archer pattern and after a couple more tweaks, this Linden will be a go-to pattern also.
I did notice when I looked at all the images for I was the only one to layer the sweatshirt. and one more look - this one on PR- love her deep hem binding and the plaid fabric. Anyone have any good french terry or sweatshirt fabric sources?
I love your version of the Linden sweatshirt - honestly I didnt look twice at it until I saw your version. Now I think I may have to get this pattern. I love the fabric you chose.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nothy, it is a nice pattern, just runs a bit big.
DeleteGreat fabric choice. It's a gorgeous grey!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maria, it is nice fabric, just wishing for lycra in it!
DeleteThe top looks great. I like it layered with a button down.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dharma,
DeleteI have the same fabric in pink and had the same issues- no recovery. Loved the stripes/dots- but this fabric needs lycra! The pattern is supposed to be baggy in your middle and it looks great that way on you. Maybe leave the shirt untucked under it so the blue shows?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information, Patricia. I appreciate your positive comments, too.
DeleteLove the fun fabric but the lack of recovery is unfortunate. Nevertheless, I hope you get a lot of use out of it because it looks so comfy cozy!
ReplyDeleteI have taken in the sides and sleeves and underarms and like it so much better.
DeleteI do like the baggy middle and I like the way you have it layered. The fabric is very cute!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Judi.
DeleteI made a sweatshirt out of this fabric last spring and I love it. It's so soft!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it is the softest fabric.
DeleteI made a shirt out of this same fabric last summer and it doesn't have any recovery and I always felt sloppy in it. I like the Linden, but do think the fabric is the problem, cute as it is. Try again with another fabric.
ReplyDeleteThat looks good Lori - thanks for the review. Thinking of downloading and making this today .....
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if anyone knows what happened to Dimepiece Los Angeles celebrity streetwear brand? I am having trouble to proceed to the checkout on store. I've read in Elle that the brand was bought out by a UK-based hedge fund for $50 million. I've just bought the Dimepiece Control the Guns Crop Sweatshirt from Amazon and totally love it xox dime piece la
