Over the weekend, my husband had a business trip to Napa, California and I tagged along.
The days were warm but the evenings cool so I went with layers. One of those layers was a new McCall's 6844, which I have made before in a red ponte
which is amazing and I loved sewing it. The weight of the fabric is perfect and I just love it.
One important feature I wanted was to match the chevron from the collar piece to the front. I cut out the front piece and then laid out the collar pattern piece on top of the front, matching notches. I used a pencil to trace the chevron, this tracing allowed me to match the chevron when pinning the pattern onto the fabric. I could not be happier with the matching.
My side seams are not as good but they do not show as much and fabric was a bit short. So short in fact, I had to piece one section of the under collar.
I wore this cardigan a couple of times on the trip, the weight was perfect as was the style.
I felt so good on this trip as I took several Me-Made garments
1. Black Ginger Jeans
2. Burda Pants
3. Butterick Dress
and this cardigan.
Napa is so beautiful and the weather was gorgeous plus was such a travel treat. I haven't been to California in 25 years and felt very blessed to be able to go again. We did return home to a winter storm warning and got home just in time.
Brilliant matching! I'm working on the same pattern, view c with the high-low hem, also had to piece the under collar :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny you had to piece the under collar, too. We seem to be sewing some of the same things - this jacket, the Plantain, maybe we should sync our schedules! Thanks so much.
DeleteLovely! so glad you got a chance for a quick get-away with your husband!
ReplyDeleteThanks Patty, it was a wonderful weekend.
DeleteLove your version of M6844
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rose.
DeleteSuper cute! I've got to make one of these!
ReplyDeleteYou will look great in this, thanks Amanda
DeleteI just made one of these and had to piece the undercollar too! I always forget to plan ahead enough to "cut 4". The chevrons look great.
ReplyDeleteThat is three of us now who had to piece the under collar. I really like the chevrons, thanks so much.
DeleteOoh, I love this! It looks awesome in that print and your matching is so good! Isn't it satisfying when you have just enough fabric to make a garment? It's nice to not have any odd leftovers!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sonja, I love not to have leftovers, plus it challenges the brain to get the layout with limited yardage and matching!
DeleteLove your take on this cardigan.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cennetta, the fabric is amazing, I was so pleased with it.
DeleteIt's been a while since I've posted here, but you're still making lovely things Lori! Chevron sweater knit...what a perfect combination! You look great! Love the flats too! Good tag along...Napa?...smart girl! ;-)
