My next step was to separate into color groups and sew 5 strips of each color together. Once I had all the strips sewn together, I went with 10" to cut the strips into blocks. Why 10"? I wanted larger blocks and then that seemed like the least amount of waste in a 42" strip.
I cut out several 2-1/2" white squares and drew a diagonal line in the square (corner to corner). The squares were attached in all 4 corners of the 10" strip block. I pinned in place, stitched down the line, cut off the excess, turned an pressed. This was down for all the blocks.
I laid the blocks out on the floor and decided to go with a diagonal color placement. I am quite pleased with the new lap quilt. This would be perfect using one jelly roll and making a baby quilt.
It turned out really cute! I am amazed (and inspired) by how much sewing you get done:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela, winter is a good sewing time for me. It is starting to warm up, so the garden and outside will be calling my name.
DeleteI love this quilt! You are such an inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks, Mary Sarah, I really appreciate it.
DeleteI agree with Angela--you sew SO much, it's like you're a sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a quilter...what is a jelly roll?
Thanks, in the winter hubby watches lots of TV, me not so much so I sew. Summer will be here and I will be outside, so not so much sewing. A jelly roll is (from Fat Quarter Shop)
DeleteJelly Rolls are collections of 2 1/2" x 44" strips of fabric produced by Moda Fabrics. Jelly Rolls typically include 40 strips of fabric but can vary. Other fabric manufacturers offer similar products such as Pops, Twice the Charm, Rolls, Roll Ups and Rolie Polies - you get the picture!
As I've asked before - do you ever sleep ???? Your color choice & placement are really stunning . The diagonal placement add to great style !!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I do sleep. Just filling up the empty nest evenings! Thanks, I liked the diagonal too, keeps the eye moving.
