Selfish Sewing Week with Josephine Top

Hey if you haven't heard it is Selfish Sewing Week, which means it is all about sewing for yourself this week.  So bring out the fabric and a pattern and make yourself something fabulous.   It could mean some fabulous prizes, too.  When Allie at Indiesew asked me to be part of
Selfish Sewing Week, I was thrilled and very quickly responded YES!

My pattern is Josephine by Made by Rae,woven tunic or blouse with front pleat detail, bust darts, and three sleeve options. Also included is the option for elastic casing or belt.  This pattern is available at

Josephine by Made by Rae available at Indiesew with front pleats made with voile from Art Gallery,

I have been looking at all the great makes of Josephine at Indiesew and knew it was something I would enjoy making and wearing.   One of the best features is the two bodice pieces -  one for A/B cups and one for C/D cups.   I looked closely at the finished measurements and went with the C/D cups.  Sizing selection was with a medium for the bust and shoulders tapering to a  small for the waist and hips.  One thing about this top, you can customize the fit for amount of ease in your comfort zone.

If you are not comfortable with the fullness of this top, there is a pattern piece to add an elastic casing to the back.  Included with the pdf pattern is a tunic length and belt option and for the hot summer months coming up a sleeveless version.

My fabric is from Art Gallery, a Lucid Hills Jade Voile which is amazing.  I loved the weight of this fabric and it was the perfect weight/drape for my Josephine top. Take at look at the other
Art Gallery's Voile fabrics, you will be delighted with the choices.

One note with the bias binding, take special care with the stretch, one side of my neckline is just a bit stretched out.  There is a tutorial at Indiesew on bias binding which is very helpful.
My top will be perfect tucked into jeans or a cute skirt.

How do you like my spring look with snow on the ground?  My spring outfit worked and all the snow melted that day!  It was a bit precarious walking around on the ice and snow for pictures.

  6. I am going to make this shirt with a sleeve placket that I've never done before. It's always fun to do something new and to challenge myself. It seems easy enough looking at the pattern pieces. Sewing Machine Judge
