Grainline Studio Morris Blazer

Grainline's Morris Blazer was purchased very quickly after the release as I love anything from Grainline Studio.

I didn't make it right away after purchasing the pdf pattern but I contemplated the fabric to use.  I went with this Mood Fabric's Derek Lam novelty knit  Being familiar with the Grainline Studio sizing , I thought about cutting a size 6 in the body and 8 in the shoulders, my sizing on the Archer.  I hestitated with this sizing as this novelty knit has some stretch but not lots of stretch.  I should of gone with my first instinct instead of the size 10.  My Morris Blazer is a bit large in the middle.  

I did add 1" to the sleeves and that is my only alteration. and this made my sleeves end at a funny length.  Too long for 3/4 sleeves and too short for long sleeves.  Also, I am going to taper the sleeves more from elbow to sleeve hem.  My sleeves are so full that I cannot push them up on my forearm.  They keep slipping down due to the wideness at the sleeve hem.

The fabric wasn't hard to sew and I used a non-stretch for the facings.  I didn't want the thickness of the novelty knit for the sleeve and hem facings.  Also, I felt the woven gave these areas more stability. I took a gamble sewing this nice fabric right on the first time but I felt confident I could have a good finished product.  I am happy with this Morris Blazer and it will be a great garment for the summer and fall.  I will make the changes on future Morris Blazers and it is an ongoing process.

Rain, rain and more rain is what we are having here in Missouri but not anywhere near what other parts of the Midwest have been enduring. My thoughts and prayers are with those people and their challenging situations.

I did have to take pictures on the porch with no sunlight, I set my camera in the RAW mode.  I had some difficulties with the editing and I won't be using RAW again.  I know it is the best way to take your photos but I just don't have enough knowledge to correctly edit.  I am going back to jpeg!

This photo taken from the side view shows the fullness in the front and back of my jacket. What did I learn from this jacket?   Always go with my gut about the sizing.   Also, this fabric is very unique and fun for this jacket but I don't love it.  It has so much texture and I feels it just adds too much thickness to the fabric.   I will wear this Morris with jeans and possibly over a dress.  I cannot wait to make another one as I love this style.
