Kirsten Kimono Tee

Girls in the Garden - Kirsten Kimono Tee in red/gray stripe from Mood Fabrics
I have sewn another free pattern from Maria Denmark, the Kirsten Kimono Tee.  Available on MariaDenmark blog, after you sign up for the newsletter or you can download it from Pattern Review
I made three of the week of  Kaitlyn's wedding, I had a bit of time to sew but wanted nothing too complicated.  The Kirsten Tee was perfect and all of them are in red!

This chevron tee was actually the last one I made.  I had the idea for the chevron from one of my favorite RTW tees.  I just cut the fabric on the bias, adding a center front seam allowance.  I actually cut one side, then put RST so I could match the chevron and cut the second front.  I made this one a bit larger, wanting a more relaxed style.  The neckline was lowered by a couple of inches.
The first one I made was leftover fabric from my Vogue 8997 dress.  I had some yardage left and love the fabric, so I pulled out the Kimono Tee.  It only takes 7/8 yard, perfect for my leftover dress fabric and a couple of other 1 yard cuts of knits.  I printed this off at work and didn't check the square for accurate printing.  This first shirt is a bit snug and I really felt like it should have been just right from the sizing chart.  I decided to measure the square.  Yes, it was a bit small.

On the next two shirts, I just cut out a bit bigger.

The last one is a red and white stripe knit from Mood Fabrics.  I had purchased it with the intentions of making a dress.  The stripe for the bodice and a solid red knit for the skirt but the reds did not match.  The one yard cut was perfect for this shirt.

I really needed some new shirts for the end of summer, just time to refresh the wardrobe.  If you are looking for an instant gratification, download and sew up this pattern.  It is nice to have a  free short sleeve shirt pattern which complements nicely with the free Hemlock pattern.

On this one, I used some picot elastic for the neckline.  It was a cute one with a bit of a pom pom look.  I can join the pom pom craze but in a very appropriate way for my age!

  5. Cute tops! So you just printed it out wrong, so the sizing was off because of printing? Off to print this out!

    1. Already made the top and LOVE it! Thank you for pointing this pattern out to me. I also tried the Hemlock one too following your narrowing instructions, tho I put it aside because the fabric seems too stiff for it. I'll have to redo with something a little more drapey.

    2. I didn't have it set to Actual on the Adobe pdf program. So it printed a bit smaller. I was too lazy to reprint and tape again, so I just cut it out a bit bigger.

Fabric is the important factor in many garments success, isnt' it?

  6. I just made two of these tops for my recent trip to the beach. Really a nice pattern and quick sew once you get the size correct.

  8. It says its a boatneck, but it doesn't look like that on yours. Did you redraw the neckline on all of them? Or is the pattern no really a boatneck? I love simple and fast.

    1. I don't find it to be a boatneck at all, just a nice round neckline.
