Finally, I got back to the Morris Blazer and made myself another one. The first one was a
textured knit in blue/cream combination
This fabric is Mood Fabrics' Brown and Jade ponte which is really nice. Mood has several other stripe pontes and all the colorways are pretty.
I went down a size in the blazer this time, I like the fit much better. Last time I mentioned I was going to taper the sleeves and I did just that this time. Much better for pushing up the sleeves.
Pushing up the sleeves I will need to do, I still didn't get them long enough. On a positive note, I am very pleased with my stripe matching on this blazer. I drew all the lines like the Grainline Studio plaid matching tutorial on the front, sleeves and the front facing. What an easy way to get such great results, that is for sure.
What Katie Sews did on her "boyfriend Morris"
Not sure what is going on in the back, a bit of an outward curve at the hem. My guess is I stretched it while sewing the hem.
I have been doing so much cleaning and decluttering at home, fall does that to me. The latest has been my sewing room and I discovered I had two copies of
The Classic Guide to Sewing the Perfect Jacket - Tailoring

ReplyDeleteThanks for a great giveaway . Your Morris is really pretty . I'll have to look up the stripe matching guide . Love the teal & brown - great job
ReplyDeleteGreat color combination on your jacket, it looks pretty and comfy!
ReplyDeleteI really love your Morris! Beautiful fabric choice too.
ReplyDeleteYour Morris jacket uses one of my favorite color combinations! I'd love to win the tailoring book. Karen
ReplyDeleteI would love to enter the giveaway. And your jacket is great looking! The stripes really suit it. I think this is my favorite Morris that I've seen.
ReplyDeleteLove this version! I did my second one in ponte as well, and I think it's the perfect fabric for this pattern. Looking forward to your boyfriend version.
ReplyDeleteLove your Morris blazer, and would love to win this tailoring book!
ReplyDeleteI love how you were able to match the stripes so well on this jacket. Awesome! If I get this book, perhaps I can do half as well!
ReplyDeleteThat book looks great, but I really love your new blazer. You look great in those colors.
ReplyDeleteYour new Morris is awesome -love the colors. The tailoring book is on my wish list so please enter me in the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteCute jacket - I think I need to get that pattern.
ReplyDeleteYour blazer looks great! Did you add fusible to the front piece? I notice you're not getting those drag lines that all the other ponte versions have had... My sewing room is in serious need of a clean out as well. Too many left over scraps that I don't know what to do with!
ReplyDeleteYes, Lisa, I did add fusible to the front piece.
DeleteI love the colors or this jacket. It looks great!! I've got to try and make this one. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of the book too!
ReplyDeleteDon't need the book since I already have it. I buy things I already have all the time. Glad I'm not the only one.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win that book! It's one I have pinned, but haven't yet talked myself into... It's a bit beyond my current skills. But that's how we learn new things, right??
ReplyDeleteI love your jacket! I've eyed that exact fabric multiple times. (haven't talked myself into that yet either ;-) (I really like the fabric of the other Morris you made, too)
happy sewing ~ Tracy

ReplyDeleteGreat jacket, I love the colour combo!
ReplyDeleteLove your jacket. I'm going to have to reconsider my decision not to get this pattern. I have gotten the Tailoring book from the library and put it on my wish list to buy.
ReplyDeleteI love Grainline, but this is the first Morris I've loved! I tailored long ago, and would love tailoring again.
ReplyDeleteLove the jacket and would love the book!
ReplyDeleteI like your Morris. I wonder if a jacket like this would work over a dress, probably sheath like but not tightly fitted, knee length, as MOB outfit - it seems as if it would have more life, afterwards, then a bolero. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteOh, Anne, I think the Morris would be beautiful for a MOB outfit - just find the perfect fabric. Congrats to your family.
DeleteYou did a good job with the blazer, as you always do.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from an admirer from old Europe, would you post the book there?
I'd love an opportunity to win the tailoring book. Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteLove your blazer!

ReplyDeleteI always love your garden pictures (I think of your garden as I work on creating my own), all of the clothes you make for you and your girls and your quilts. I'm starting to quilt again and I like seeing that you do both. :)
