I decided to try a big ruffle and I do believe I like it! This ruffle is a big one but seems proportional in size for the top.
I went with McCall's 7573 using View C. I wavered quite a bit trying to decide if I was going to make this one. It is quite different from my usual style but I have decided to venture out and try new styles and patterns.
This one is easy to make and I didn't make too many changes.
I found this fabric at Joann's and it is just beautiful in plaid, color and hand. It was one of their designer bolts.
Back view with hook and eye closure.
The main change was to take the flare out of the bottom part of the top. I didn't like the look of the flare on me, so I just redrew the lines on the side seams. I found this to be an easy fix, especially with the plaid fabric. I had lines to follow!
I did pay close attention for the plaid matching. The front plaid matches from the front yoke to ruffle to the bottom shirt. This is something I remember from watching the first season of The British Sewing Bee. One of the judges pointed out this on a contestant's garment, it really stuck with me. Actually, this wasn't something I even paid attention to before watching that episode. Now it is something I try to do on each garment, if I can and have enough fabric.
The back just matches on the ruffle and bottom shirt. The back yoke is off a bit and a lesson learned to cut the two pieces differently next time.
Here is the binding for the underarm seams
Your shirt is so pretty! I've been on the fence about this pattern and style...time will tell. But you look so cute and fresh in yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I haven't worn it yet, so time will tell how much I wear it.
DeleteAnother cute top! The style reminds me of Vogue 8622, Version B (out of print). I made it for a holiday party and love it. It looks like this pattern but without the bodice. Yours is fab!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, it is a fun style.
Deletecute and love the pink plaid.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I really was happy to find this fabric at Joann's
