IndieSew Cardison Jacket and Key Largo Top

Indiesew Cardison and Key Largo top made with Scuba knit and rayon jersey

A couple of casual pieces for the beautiful fall weather

Everything today is from Indiesew and it is all pretty amazing.

First up is the CardisonA knit cardigan with an elastic hem band, 3/4 length sleeves, and single welt pockets.  One of the recommended fabrics is Scuba, which I used, this gorgeous Admiral Blue Scuba Knit.  I love this fabric, a soft (super-soft) and stable knit.

The stable knit made the welt pockets so much easier.  The instructions were easy to follow and the only thing that was a bit hard was the welt pockets.  If I read them correctly it stated not to stitch across the stop of the welt before you cut the welt open.  I followed it the first time but on the second welt, I stitched the entire rectangle.  I found this much easier to get nice sharp shape.

I did baste the outline of the welt pocket on both sides, making it easier to stitch and the sizes were the same.  I did not like how the inside looked, so I used some leftover fabric to cover the inside.

Makes for a neater inside.  Three of the sides were attached to the other seams, the top  -
Steam-a-Seam holds it in place!

I made a size medium which is good and a bit roomy, so if you want it more fitted go down a size.  An inch to the sleeves and it would be easy to lengthen them to long sleeve.

Topstitching all around the neckband, front and bottom edge, just a detail I like and it held the seam down a bit. This was a consideration with the thicker fabric and seam.  Plus it just made it look a bit more finished.

This jacket is just so comfortable and made from the scuba knit, a perfect weight.  Once you get past the welt pockets, this jacket is very quick to sew.  I did use 3/4" elastic for the bottom band, it just fit a bit better for my make.

Now to my top, it is Key Largo TopA casual tee with short sleeves, a bias-cut front, neck binding, and the option for front ties and recommended fabric is woven.

Now I have been seeing t-shirts with the tie accent at the hem in RTW and thought this pattern would be perfect for a knit.  I did not cut the front on the bias and went down about a half a size.  I love this top, it fits perfect and looks so stylish.

The only thing about the knit, which is Dark Heather Grey Rayon, the tie is a bit thick when double knotted.

I see so many of these t-shirts in my future, with the tie and then a few changes and without the tie.  I have been making lots of t-shirts trying to find the best fitting one.  I might have just found that in this one.

I took pictures on a couple of different days, so you see it styled different ways.

  1. Great makes! I quite like the elastic hem pants on the cardi— it gives it a bit of a bomber jacket look. I sewed for the first time with jersey lined scuba last week and I absolutely LOVED it!
