When it is below zero wind chill to end 2017, I make a warm sweater and find a spot in the house to take blog pictures! Happy New Year dear sewing friends, I can't wait to see what 2018 holds for all of us
In November, I was contacted by Karleen from Sewing Studio with the opportunity to sew a garment from her beautiful fabric. I went with this Sweater Knit, which Karleen suggested.
I have made this pattern before, once in a french terry, which I love and once in a red inexpensive knit which was too flimsy. I have passed that one along.
This red sweater knit is perfect for this style, has some stretch but most importantly substance. It needs some substance to keep the collar in place and to keep the pockets in good shape
A fun feature of this pattern, is the kangaroo pocket included with welt pockets and the pocket on the interior of the pocket.
This fabric is a tubular knit, meaning a fold on each side, making it very easy to cut my front and back on the fold. I did find it had good stretch and I adjusted the differential on my serger to help balance the stretch.
I do find this pattern to run a bit large and the sizing is unusual 1 to 10. I went with a 6 per my measurements for both versions but took in quite a bit in the back at the princess seams. I will go down a size or two next time.
You can tell in this photo, still some extra fabric in the shoulders and back.
I have mentioned this before, on stretchy knits, I am careful to press and lift my iron. This especially important on the hem bands and sleeve bands, I don't want them to stretch out of shape.
I went with a soft gray button, a nice contrast for my red.
Now to the weather, I know so many of us are in a deep freeze. I did find a couple of spots in my house that have good light about 2 pm, so that is helpful.
This sweater knit is currently one sale and Sewing Studio has a good selection of other sweater knits
Happy sewing to all of you for 2018. My list for the next two months is long, hoping I can work through most of it. How long is your list for the rest of winter?
