Oh, I love this fabric, it is perfect and beautiful. The top is great too but it was suppose to have sleeves. Read on to hear what happened to the sleeves
My pattern is Simplicity 8216, the tie was my reason to buy this pattern. I had planned on making view C - long sleeve blouse with tie.
But first the fabric, it is from Style Maker Fabrics, sorry Michelle told me I got the last of it. Don't worry, Michelle has several other great options.
Now back to the top, it was going together beautifully and then after putting in the sleeves, on no! My fellow sewists, I could not get the top off! I mean literally, I was stuck in my blouse. For a minute, I thought I was going to have to wait until my husband got home and cut me out! LOL
I tried a few times and was able to pull the hem up a little up at a time. Woo hoo, free!
It was an easy decision, save the blouse and my beautiful fabric. I ripped off the sleeves, used the sleeve fabric for binding and made Simplicity 8216 sleeveless.
Here is the back with the gathers
Here is the tie - I can wear it close to the neck, in a knot or bow or wear it knotted at the bottom of the curved neckline.
For winter, I will always wear it with a cardigan or jacket.
Here is how I will wear it all winter.
Now, I have seen some good reviews on Pattern Review for this pattern. I would not recommend this one, the armholes are too high and tight. I would try Sew Over It Pussy Bow Blouse or Vogue 9204 for better options
Anyone else have stories like this? It really is funny and makes me laugh a bit each time I think about it.
Gorgeous blouse! Not funny when one gets stuck in one's clothing! (Been there.) But too bad that you had to lose the sleeves. If you wanted to use this pattern again, could you possibly add a little slit and buttons at the neckline to make it easier to get in and out of?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Irene, it was a funny moment after I figured out how to get out! I don't think I will make this one again, but do want to make another tie blouse.
DeleteI can only imagine how you felt not being able to get this off! It looks great as a sleeveless blouse. I have this pattern and will check the issues with the sleeve should I decide to make it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda, good luck with the pattern.
DeleteIf you like the rest of the blouse you could frankenpattern the armcye and sleeve from a pattern that does fit.
ReplyDeleteI think that is a good idea, thanks
DeleteThat is a very funny story , but the end result is very pretty
ReplyDeleteIt is really funny! Thanks
DeleteI love your blouse so much but took your advice and ordered the Vogue 9204 - it's amazing how often a pattern skips our notice until we see it on someone :) This is the sort of blouse you'll no doubt get a lot of wear out of. It's just lovely - I do have the Sew Over It pattern (as it happens Sew Over It sent it to me by mistake but told me to keep it and sent me my original order as well)
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to get that Vogue pattern, too, I like the look and I don't think I will get stuck in that one!
Deleteyou better let Simplicity know about this problem. I wonder how their models get their shirts off?
ReplyDeleteGood idea to send an email to Simplicity.
DeleteSorry the pattern didn't work out well. That fabric is beautiful. Nice drape. Love The floral pattern. You know that shade of red really is a good color for you. Need to add some more to your wardrobe.👗👗🌹
ReplyDeleteI agree, I am looking for more red. Thanks
DeleteHaha! I too have been trapped in a top. My husband was home and rescued me.
ReplyDeleteHappy you were rescued!
DeleteOh no about getting stuck!! I have had that problem once in a pull over blouse - don't remember which one, the whole thing went into the bin as soon as I ripped it off with sheer adrenaline brute force! It is certainly a panic in the moment but funny afterwards! Your blouse is beautiful though!
ReplyDeleteIt is funny.... afterwards! Thanks so much.
