Simplicity 8454

Simplicity 8454 in Style Maker Fabrics' rayon crepe

Do you have those fabrics that you have been paired with the pattern and just sitting there waiting for you to sew that garment?  Well, this is one of those garments, waiting since fall for me to sew.  I love this fabric and the pattern, which I will be using for several more tops.

The pattern is Simplicity 8454 and has four views, I went with View A but had to go with the 3/4 length sleeves, fabric shortage.  My fabric is from Style Maker Fabrics' Floral Rayon Crepe - Autumn.  I am thinking some olive jeans for this fabric.

One change was the back slit opening, my plan was an invisible zipper and use a longer one.  Well, the fabric is light and at the end of the zipper, the center back seam stuck out with an odd curve.  I decided to shorten the zipper to about 5".  Same thing, fabric was just to light to handle the zipper.  I did some unsewing and basted the CB seam.  Well, wouldn't you know it the top slipped right over my head, no zipper or opening needed

Here is the side view of the top and then you can get a good look of the flounce.  My plan for summer is View B and C, just some fun looking tops.  I love this top, the feel and the fit are great.

I used some self-fabric for the binding and the fabric works so nicely.

Now for a laugh - my old dog, was so excited and about pushed me off the deck!  My face is pretty funny in this photo.

I have been a bit quiet last week and part of this week, several family circumstances popped up at the exact time.  I usually have quite a bit of sewing time in the evenings and weekends but that is not going to be the case for the next few weeks.  With this in mind, I had to step back from the Royal Wedding Sew-along.  Please head to the McCall's blog for all  the information for the sew-along.

  1. Great top. I have a pair of oatmeal or cement or whatever you want to call them jeans. I think they'd look great with this top. Good luck with your family circumstance. Sewing can wait. Family cannot (as you obviously know). Thoughts and prayers are with you.

    1. That is a good idea for pants. I love this top and all the family circumstances are all good and everyone is healthy and happy. Check out my About Me section and you can see how my number of grands has grown, that was all the circumstances.

Question: I thought I remembered reading a post you wrote on 50mm camera lens but I cannot find it. Can you please point me to it (if I'm not mistaken_/
