I have had this idea in my head for a month or two and finally got to make it. This is one of those tops which I love everything about it.
The pattern is McCall's 7284 with a few changes from the first time I made it in polka dot
Here are the changes,
1. I went with View C for the basis
2. I omitted the slit in the front and moved the slit to the back using a hook and eye for the closure
3. I drafted a new pattern piece so the yoke went across the front of the blouse. I did have to make some changes with fabric shortage and embroidery changes. I pieced the front piece and did some of the embroidery vertically.
4. My polka dot top has very high armholes, I took some out of the pattern in the front and the the sleeve. This top feels so much better and I need to alter my polka dot one so I will wear it more.
5. The front yoke is totally lined but I only had enough fabric for a facing on the back yoke.
6. I did interface the front yoke piece and the back facings.
Now let's talk about the front embroidery.
I took a class at my local Pfaff dealer, Satin Stitches and I learned so much about the Premier +2 Embroidery Ultra and the Premier +2 Create. For this Embroidery design I used the Premier +2 Create and actually digitized my own design. I started with an easy Mini Pic and practiced what I learned.
Using the Bezier Mode tool and started digitizing this heart.
Next step was to adjust the directions of the stitch a bit, just by moving the directions of the lines and then length of the lines. Here is a photo of the design with stitches.
The more I thought about this I decided to make a row of these hearts in the Encore feature,
This photo is for a smaller hoop. I tend to design and plan as I go and my actual stitch out is in a larger hoop.
Last plan was to add an border on each side of the heart row. I entered the length of the border the same as the hoop and it fills it out.
So my design was finished and ready to stitch out on my fabric. I did do a partial stitch out on some muslin, it was perfect.
Then I did just one border for the side of the front and I stitched these three sections together.
Here is a better photo of the side embroidery.
The sleeves are finished with a decorative stitch with a similar design
The fabric is the softest linen I have ever felt and it some from Sewing Studio. I used every little bit of the fabric!
I am so happy with my new top and love how this incredible Pfaff Creative Icon and Premier +2 software can make this top so amazing.
This might be my last true summer garment but I went with more a fall color for the embroidery.
Lovely and good use of your new Pfaff!
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling top! I don’t think I’ve ever seen linen that appears to have texture. It’s lovely.
