Simplicity 8700 - Metallic Jacquard
Each month I receive this fabulous box, Mood Fabrics' Swatch Club and it is so fun looking at all these fabulous swatches. I usually find three to seven swatches which I love.
As a result of September's Swatch Club, I ordered this Mood Fabrics' Beige and Gold Abstract Jacquard. I loved the camo look of this jacquard and I thought what a fun way to use the popular camo trend. This Jacquard comes in five colors, so take you pick for your favorite color.
I thought a jacket for this fabric, I love a jacket for fall and for layering. I wasn't sure which pattern until I saw Simplicity 8700 and it was perfect for the abstract jacquard. I steamed the fabric for pretreating and went to work cutting out my cargo jacket.
I went with the shorter length and the ruffled bottom hem. My usual alterations are one inch to the body and the sleeves, so these were made to the pattern pieces. Do note this jacket is oversized, I went with a Medium and I am good with the oversized look but I could easily make a small for a more fitted look. Make sure you check the finished measurements, to pick the one you are most comfortable. Next time I will narrow the sleeves, they are quite wide all the way down.
Jacquard does ravel, really ravel, so I serged the edges on all the pattern pieces including the pocket pieces. I did digitize my patch for the pocket, I am so happy with how it turned out. I like the look of the embroidery on the pocket.
I did add the sleeve tabs
The pattern did not have a back facing, so I drafted my own, I did not line my jacket and the back facing helps finish it. The pattern just you tuck the seam into the collar and sew closed
The fabric sewed beautifully, was so easy to topstitch and the buttonholes sewed on it like a dream. So add some sparkling goodness to your life.
