McCall's 7844 - Blush Pleated Skirt
Time for something that isn't my usual look, something fun and festive. I saw this Mood Fabrics' beautiful pleated satin (in 22 colors if I counted correctly) and I knew I needed/wanted a skirt from this fabulous fabric. This style is all over ready-to-wear and just search pleated skirts on Pinterest and you can have so many styling ideas.
I went with McCall's 7844 for the basis of my skirt. Note this pattern is for you to pleat your fabric, a step I could skip since my fabric was pleated. How I did this was measure how long I wanted my skirt and marked from the selvage up. The width of my fabric was the same as the waistband length for my size. Now my waistband, I pressed out the pleats and used this for my waistband.
My skirt has only one seam and I used a french seam. Before attaching my waistband, I basted the pleats flat and then attached the waistband.
You can see the seam in the seated photo, I put it on the side. My thought it would better there than running down the middle of my backside! LOL. Can you see the hem in the above photo? It is the selvage, The fabric was hard to keep the pleats consistent when sewing on the waistband. I loved the fringe look of the selvage and I just went with it.
Now this skirt has the twirl factor
Oh, one more important factor, I used the wrong side, not the satin side. I just wanted a matte looking skirt, so that is what I did! After I got home, I thought I would try another look and went with a v-neck sweater. I like this, too. I am excited for this fun skirt for the holidays and more.
