I finished just in time for #sewfancypants with my Simplicity 8701
These pants are good but not quite great in the fit, some lines in the front below the zipper fly. If I made these pants again, I will work on the fit. One thing for sure, these were really pretty quick to make and fun to sew.
I used a Mood Fabrics' Stretch Twill (which is this one or maybe this twill ) I ordered them I the same time and really can't tell colors between my fabric and the monitor. Thought it would be best if I gave both choices.
I did a decorative stitch on the pockets to add a bit of fun and interest. Can you tell my thread is a bit darker for the waistband and beltloops? I ran out of thread and I was sewing on these the week I had 2 of my grandkids. I just didn't want to load up and go to Joann's 45 minutes away to get thread, so I made it work. It is a design detail!
The pants do fit good in the back and are pretty highwaisted. One thing to note, I really narrowed the legs, they are a wide fit at the thighs and I wanted more of a close fit. To get the fit I wanted, I just kept basting and trying on.
For sizing I went with a 12 at the hips and 14 at the waist, which after basting, went down more like a 12 at the waist. The back waistband is one piece but would benefit with a two piece waistband. It just sits away from the waist too much.
I also made the blouse for this outfit, Burda 6458 and my blouse fabric -
Style Maker Fabrics's Rayon Crepe was the perfect match
This time I lengthened the sleeve and added a flare, put in a casing and slipped in some elastic. The fabric looks almost the same front and back, so this look works nicely.
Let's talk neckline, I did lower the front neckline but need to work a bit at the shoulder seam neckline. It is just a bit too wide there, sometimes slipping down and showing the bra straps.
Overall, I am pleased with this outfit, it is the first time I think I have made pants and blouse together and that was really fun.
Beautiful outfit Lori! It looks so pretty on you.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great outfit Lori! The pants fit looks amazing and I love the style of your blouse.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dianne, I really like the blouse. The pants need some more tweaking but not too bad for first time.
DeleteThey both look amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lindy.
DeleteThese both look great on you! How do you get your waistband so flat and crisp? I feel like mine get creases at the edge of the seam allowance even before I put them on.
ReplyDeleteI put a strip about 1/4" think of firm interfacing at the top of the waistband. Approximately where the seam will be sewn, sewing through the middle of the seam allowance. This is in addition to the regular interfacing for the waistband.
