Spring is here and I know it is by the green grass, leaves starting to pop out on the trees and it is time for the Style Maker Fabrics Spring Style Tour. I am so excited to be part of the tour again and show you these great fabrics
Michelle of Style Maker Fabrics does the most amazing job curating the best fabrics, beautiful combinations of prints, textures and fabric types. I love how so many coordinate together and expand the wardrobe possibilities. Just take a look at Inside the Hem's swatch video. Lindsey describes the fabric and then expands on the coordinating fabric. As I watched the video, I wrote notes and fabric numbers that were my favorites. How many favorites? The front and back of a piece of paper! It is more than that, as some fabrics come in more than one colorway.
My choices were based on an Anthropologie top I just fell in love with. I sent Michelle the link and Michelle worked her fabric magic. She sent me some fabric combinations and I knew this was the one I wanted. The body of the top is Style Maker Fabrics' Bamboo Jersey French Terry in Blush this fabric comes in nine colors. I might have to get several of these colors, this fabric is just that good, so soft and great drape. All this and French Terry, such a comfort fabric.
The sleeves are Style Maker Fabrics' Romantic Rose Rayon Crepe and isn't it gorgeous? I love the two fabrics together and they make the perfect top.
I used two patterns for this top - McCall's 7284 for the sleeves and Butterick 6175 for the body of the top. I did make a few changes
I have two copies of the Butterick 6175, one which I have removed the dart so I can use it for knits. The only change I made for the body of the top was to omit the dart and cut a band for the neckline.
The sleeves were the fuller long sleeve view from 7284. Now I had a bit of an oops, I cut the sleeves and then decided I needed to use the sleeve cap from 6175. Good idea to make it fit better with the body of the shirt, but I eliminated some length! I had more fabric and cut the flounce, attaching it to the sleeve, using an one inch seam allowance. This made the elastic casing and all turned out just fine. I breathed a sigh of relief.
Michelle asked me what type of pants I wanted to make. I thought about the Emersons but in the end I really wanted to make the True Bias Landers and have for quite some time. Michelle knew the perfect fabric, Designer Washed Mid Weight Denim, perfect light color for spring and for my beautiful top.
So no stretch is best. I made a size 8 and cut the longest length. Adjustments for this was narrowing the legs from the hips down to the knees. I also only cut 3 inches off the length and turned up a 2 inch hem. Lesson here, if I make the long length, I will have to add about 3 inches or more if I want to wear heels.
This denim was incredible to work with and was just so easy to sew and press. Kelly of True Bias has a sew along, which I used, especially for the buttons and buttonholes. I am always so nervous with this step but it all worked out just fine. I was so surprised how quickly the Landers sew and I love the big patch pockets. I need a few more Landers in my wardrobe, linen maybe.
The high waisted look is a different look for me, I am long waisted and next time I might remove about 3/4" from the rise. For this look, I didn't want to partial tuck the top, so I used a hair tie and twisted the front of the shirt. A good way to show off the Landers' high waist and the great button front
A few more photos, I love this outfit. I feel so good in it and can't wait to order fabric to make more feel good outfits.
