Cheyenne Tunic - Style Maker Fabrics Digital Shirting
Back in February I had the opportunity to sew three garments for Style Maker Fabrics, these garments were in Michelle's booth for the Puyallup Sew Expo
This is the second year I have gotten to do this sewing and it was so fun. Michelle mailed the garments back to me and now I get to share these garments with you. The first up is Hey June Cheyenne Tunic
The fabric is a digital shirting with some stretch, it is sold out but here are some other options.
The Cheyenne is a casual woven shirt or tunic in two views. View A is a standard collared button down (view I made) and View B has a dropped neckline with no collar and a shaped half placket. You can pick long or 3/4 sleeves.
The pattern comes with a great instruction booklet and it so helpful. I made a Medium and lengthened sleeves by one inch.
I used the gingham for the under collar, the inside collar band, the inside front button band, the sleeve placket and the inside of the cuffs.
I did make some changes. One significant change was the buttonholes, the instructions have you do it right away. Sew the placket and then buttonholes, before shoulder seams or any other construction. I don't agree with this, I like to try on the garment and get one buttonhole just at the bust point. So I didn't do buttonholes until the end, followed by the hem.
I did also flatten the sleeve head, I wasn't having good luck setting the sleeves.
I have not made a sleeve placket in quite some time, actually I think this is only the second one I have made. Hey June's instructions are amazing and I had great luck with this step.
The cuffs are cut on the fold, using the same fabric for the outside/inside. I added a seam allowance and cut one from the floral and one from the gingham.
I enjoyed making this shirt and find it similar to the Archer. I do think the Cheyenne Tunic is fuller, might be the "tunic" in the name. If you want a closer fit, fish eye darts in the back might be a good idea
Here is my shirt at the Expo, thanks Michelle for letting me a part of the Expo, I loved sewing your fabulous fabric and the pattern.
Here is an Instagram Photo I shared in my stories, it is from Michelle and Style Maker Fabrics' booth. The jeans with the shirt are my make, too, I will share those soon.
