In the introduction, Sarah and Julie have written "we wrote A Stylish Guide to Classic Sewing to trigger sewing mojo and awaken your personal style by presenting 30 timeless garments which have endured the test of time and carried dozens of trends through the decades" That they did in this book, you will find chapters on these garments which includes the history, characteristics, sewing tips and fabric suggestions. The chapters even have a How to Style section! I love this part, sometimes I finish something great and then struggle on how to wear it. Thank you Sarah and Julie for such great advice.

ReplyDeleteI go to classics to wear under my more "art teacher" lagenlook items. It helps bring attention to those more creative pieces and, if I'm in a very conservative situation, I can know my classics will be perfect when I take off the artsy piece(s)

If you are only going to do general sewing and occasionally sew some gorgeous doll clothes for your grandchildren, why would you spend a small fortune on a fancy electronic machine with gazillions of stitches when a good basic machine would be suitable? If, on the other hand, you are like my Mom who sews for hours making fancy embroidered table cloths, doilies, cushion covers, skirts, fancy collars, quilts, etc., then you would be frustrated with a basic sewing machine and would be wise to invest a little more in a good quality embroidery or quilting machine that is able to do the fancy stitches and patterns that you want to sew. sewing machine brands
