Iviye Patterns - Adah Kaftan

The year of the statement sleeve continues as does my love of the statement sleeve.  This pattern is all about the sleeve and I couldn't be happier.

Lynn of Iviye Patterns has a pattern line filled with classic lines and modern twists.  This Adah Kaftan is a mini Kaftan with side slits and billowy sleeves, a keyhole back opening and high neckline and combine these all together for a beautiful top.

Lynn recommends a hook and eye closure which would be perfect for a sleek look but I wanted a little different closure.  I carried the bias binding past the neckline to add some fun ties. 

For the keyhole opening, I did as a facing and then folded it close and topstitched.  The ties add a bit of interest to the back and just plain fun.

The instructions are brief, think Burda Magazine type brief.  If you are familiar with sewing, this blouse will be a sewing success for you and depending on the style of Iviye pattern you select the sewing level would be advanced beginner to intermediate. My fabric is a Rayon Twill Shirting from Style Maker Fabrics, sold out and I am so sorry because it is such a nice one.   Here are some other choices of rayon twill shirtings available.  With this top, the drape of the fabrics is important and sometimes I get that wrong.  Today on my Adah, I got it right, the fabric is perfect for the drape of the shirt and the sleeves

The Adah Kaftan illustration does show a sleeve band but it is not included in the pattern pieces.  It was easy to draft my own, I measured my arm and then cut it out.  The sleeves would be find without a band but I like the more fitted look, especially in winter with putting on a coat.

I did not do side slits on mine, my fabric is printed on and the wrong side is white, just didn't want that showing.  

I made a size XS in the hips, waist and then between a XS and Small in the bust.  I didn't want it oversized, just measure the pattern piece to get the look you want.

I find this style very easy to customize and make your own, thinking of other necklines and possible ruffles at the hem.
