I have been trying to sew some different things this month. Yes, I did sew a couple of tops but I made a lounge -pj set and now a romper. This is something very much out of my normal sewing.
The pattern is Love Notions' Sunday Romper and the fabric is Style Maker Fabrics' Mid Weight Cotton Jersey in Periwinkle - also 22 other colors!
I had plans for the cropped length but guess who didn't order enough fabric, yep, me. I went with the short version, adding a bit of extra length to the shorts, just in case. Well, I took all that extra length off, they were just too long .
This romper goes together so quickly, it is pretty much instant gratification. I did not put in the drawstring, I just used a straight elastic waist. The difference between my waist and hip is 8" so the elastic waist is fine.
I recently have changed my diet, I have greatly reduced my sugar intake. If you know me you know this is big, I ran on Little Debbies and ice cream. With this change, I have lost about 7 pounds and most of the inches in my mid-section. This romper is a size 12 but I will make a size 10 next time and shorten the bodice by at least an inch. I don't like how much is blouses above the drawstring. Lindsey of Inside the Hem mentioned this in her video. I have met Lindsey in person and I have about 3 inches on her. I do usually add one inch for my long waist so this time I just did not do that. In my mind, it would be just right. Nope, need to reduce. Also, I am thinking about changing the neckline to a scoop neck just for something different.
I do plan on making this in the cropped version for fall maybe in the cranberry or plum color choice. I am excited to style this in a couple ways, maybe a Instagram Reel coming up. The hat is cute with the outfit and great when Nana takes three grandkids swimming and comes home for pictures.
What have you made recently that is maybe a bit out of your comfort zone?
I do need to mention, I follow Whitney of TomKat Stitchery and she did a You Tube Video on recreating Boden looks from Love Notion Patterns, that helped me pick the right weight fabric. Whitney's inspiration was white Boden Romper - I was not brave enough for white.
